- Butter, 3 tablespoons
- Dates (chopped), 1-1/2 cups
- Sugar, 1-1/2 cups
- Walnuts (chopped), ¾ cup
- Flour, 2-¼ cups
- 2 eggs
- Hot water, 1-1/2 cups
- Baking soda, 1-½ teaspoon
- Vanilla extract, 1-½ teaspoon
- Salt, 1-½ teaspoon
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with butter, and set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine dates, sugar, and walnuts. Stir together until well combined.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, eggs, hot water, baking soda, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir together until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix as this can cause the bread to become tough.
Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Once finished baking, remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
- You can use any type of dried fruit or nuts in this recipe.
- For sweeter bread, add more sugar and dates.
- If you don't have hot water, you can use boiling water instead.
- Make sure not to overmix the batter as it will make the bread tough.
