Ingredients

For the taco meat:

  • 1/3 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 pound of lean ground beef
  • 1 small jalapeño pepper – minced
  • 1 tablespoon of homemade taco seasoning – or You can use a store-bought

Remaining ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup of taco sauce
  • 1 round of pizza dough – homemade or store bought
  • 1/2 medium bell pepper – any color of your choice
  • 1 large Roma tomato – cut into slices
  • 6 oz. of shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • 4 black olives thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If you're using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats to ensure a crispy crust.
  • Thinly slice the black olives, shred the iceberg lettuce, Roma tomatoes and bell pepper. Set them aside for topping the pizza.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent, about 2-3 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook until fully browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Once browned, stir in the minced jalapeño and cook for another minute. Add the taco seasoning, mix well, and set the meat aside.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a thin circle about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer the dough to a pizza pan or preheated pizza stone.
  • Spread the taco sauce evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.
  • Layer the taco meat over the sauce. Next, evenly distribute the bell pepper, shredded lettuce, Roma tomato slices and black olives. Finish by sprinkling the shredded Mexican cheese blend on top.
  • Place the pizza in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly. For a crispier crust, you can bake for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. Serve with sour cream and extra taco sauce on the side, if desired.

Notes

• If you don’t have taco seasoning, you can use 1 teaspoon each of chili powder and cumin.
• If you like your pizza extra spicy, try adding some diced jalapenos or other hot peppers to the topping.
• For a vegetarian version, simply omit the ground beef and replace it with your favorite vegetarian toppings.
