Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon celery
  • 1/8 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon celery seeds
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup white or cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water together until completely dissolved. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the celery salt, celery seeds, vinegar, sugar and butter and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and slowly add the cornstarch mixture while stirring. Add the pepper, onion powder, and salt to the mixture and continue stirring until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  • Remove from heat and allow it to cool before using or storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

  • If you want a thinner dressing, add more water or less cornstarch.
  • If you want a sweeter dressing, add an extra tablespoon of sugar.
