Werther's is a brand known for its delicious and rich caramel candies. But did you know that their caramels can also be used to create a mouth-watering snack? Yes, we're talking about none other than Werther's Popcorn!
Prepare the Popcorn- Begin by preheating your oven to 250°F (120°C) and lining a large baking sheet with parchment paper. In a separate large pot or pan, heat up the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it starts to shimmer. Add in a few kernels of popcorn and cover the pot/pan with a lid. Once they have popped, remove them from the pot/pan.- Next, add in the remaining popcorn kernels and stir to evenly coat them with oil. Cover and let them pop, shaking the pot/pan occasionally until all kernels have popped. This will ensure perfectly popped and evenly coated kernels for your Werther's Popcorn.
Make the Caramel Sauce- In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the rich flavors of light brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, and a pinch of salt. Cook over medium heat, constantly stirring until the mixture comes to a boil.- Once it reaches a boil, let it cook for an additional 4 minutes without stirring. This will allow the flavors to come together and create a smooth and velvety consistency in the caramel sauce. Remove from heat and add in a touch of baking soda and vanilla extract, giving the sauce a light and airy texture.
Combine Popcorn and Caramel Sauce- Pour the luscious caramel sauce over the freshly popped popcorn. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to evenly coat each kernel with the rich, buttery caramel goodness.- Spread the coated popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes. Be sure to give it a good stir every 15 minutes to ensure even coating and prevent burning.
Cool and Serve- Once done, remove your delicious Werther's Popcorn from the oven and let it cool completely before breaking into irresistible pieces.
