Equipment

  • Medium-sized saucepan

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Lemon slices & fresh mint sprigs for serving adjust to your taste
  • 3 regular-size or 2 family-size Luzianne tea bags
  • 1 pinch of baking soda
  • 1 quart of filtered water

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized saucepan, bring the quart of filtered water to a boil.
  • Once the water is boiling, remove it from heat and add the tea bags. Let the tea bags steep in the hot water for about 5-7 minutes.
  • After steeping, carefully remove the tea bags from the hot water.
  • While the tea is still hot, stir in the 1/2 cup of sugar until it dissolves. Add a pinch of baking soda to reduce bitterness. Stir until well combined.
  • Allow the sweet tea to cool to room temperature. You can speed up the process by placing the saucepan in the refrigerator.
  • Once the sweet tea has cooled, pour it over ice and garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint sprigs according to your taste preferences.
  • Stir the sweet tea before serving and enjoy your homemade sweet tea!

Notes

  • For a stronger tea flavor, steep the tea bags for 7 minutes instead of 5.
  • If desired, sweeten the tea with honey or agave nectar instead of sugar.
  • For a stronger lemon flavor, add more lemon juice to the tea.
  • To make a larger batch of tea, simply double the ingredients and adjust the amount of sugar and lemon juice to taste.
  • If you don't have fresh lemon juice, you can use bottled lemon juice.
  • If desired, add a few slices of fresh lemon to the tea for garnish.
