Equipment

  • Oven
  • Pie Pans

Ingredients

  • 2 18 1/2 ounce box cake mix
  • egg as desired on the cake box
  • 2 store-bought frozen pie crust
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips optional
  • 2 8 ounces containers of frosting (we recommend Cream Cheese)
  • vegetable oil as desired

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, prepare the cake batter according to package instructions.
  • Grease two pie pans with vegetable oil and place one thawed pie crust in each pan.
  • Pour half of the prepared cake batter into each pan over the pie crusts. For an additional twist, you can add 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips to the pans.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool completely before moving on to assembly.
  • Carefully remove one cake from its pan and place it on a serving plate. Spread frosting over the top of this cake layer, leaving about an inch of space around the edges. Place the second cake on top of the frosting layer and use the remaining frosting to cover the entire pake, including the sides.
  • Step 6: Slice and serve your homemade pake!

Notes

  • Make sure to follow the package instructions for greasing and thawing the pie crusts.
  • Add your favorite mix-ins like nuts, dried fruit, or candy pieces for added texture and flavor.
  • For a creamier filling, add a layer of whipped cream or pudding between the two cake layers.
  • You can use cherry pie filling to top your pake before serving for a delicious cherry-chocolate combination.
