Saucepan
knife
cutting board
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 cups walnuts
- 4 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/8 teaspoon cardamom
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 5 cups figs
Prepare the figs by cutting them into small pieces and combining them with water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Allow the mixture to come to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
Add walnuts, lemon juice, cardamom, and sugar to the saucepan with the figs. Stir the ingredients together until evenly incorporated.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking or burning. The jam should start to thicken while cooking.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the jam to cool. Once cooled, transfer it into an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator.
- If the jam starts to get too thick while cooking, add a bit more water as needed.
- Make sure to use ripe figs for optimal sweetness and flavor.
- You can adjust the sugar level to your liking, depending on how sweet you like your jam.
- If you want a stronger cardamom flavor, add an extra pinch of ground cardamom for added spice.
