Equipment

  • roasting pan
  • Bowl

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 prime rib roast around 5 pounds
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 3 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 3 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 3 tsp olive oil

Instructions

  • Prepare and season the prime rib generously with salt, black pepper, dried rosemary, thyme, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub the mixture into the meat until it's evenly coated.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F before placing the prime rib in a roasting pan. Roast for approximately one hour or until it reaches an internal temperature of 140°F.
  • To make the gravy, start by heating the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the all-purpose flour and whisk until a smooth paste forms. Gradually stir in the beef broth and red wine, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens (about 2 minutes). Reduce heat to low and let the gravy simmer for 5 minutes or until desired thickness is achieved.
  • Slice the prime rib before serving with a generous helping of gravy.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer for precise temperature readings.
  • Baste the prime rib with beef broth every 20 minutes for extra juiciness.
  • Allow the prime rib to rest before slicing, as this will help retain moisture in the meat.
  • You can also add other herbs or spices to the marinade such as paprika or oregano.
