Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • airtight container

Ingredients

  • To whip up this delightful spread gather the following ingredients:
  • - 150 g cream cheese or a non-dairy alternative I enjoy using Oatly creamy oat spread
  • - 3-4 teaspoons sweet paprika
  • - 2 teaspoons caraway seeds slightly crushed for more flavor
  • - 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • - 1 tablespoon finely chopped pickles for tanginess
  • - 2 spring onions halved and thinly sliced
  • - 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
  • - 1 tablespoon capers rinsed and chopped (these add a briny punch)
  • - Juice of half a lemon adjust to your taste
  • - Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients

  • Gather all your ingredients and ensure that your cream cheese (or non-dairy alternative) is at room temperature. This will allow for easier mixing. Before you start, finely chop your parsley, spring onions, and pickles to ensure they blend nicely into the cheese spread.

Step 2: Combine Cream Cheese and Spices

  • In a mixing bowl, add the cream cheese, sweet paprika, caraway seeds, Dijon mustard, and the freshly chopped spring onions. Using a whisk or a fork, beat them together until the mixture is smooth and well combined. The vibrant orange paprika will start to impart its warm color, spreading joy in your mixing bowl.

Step 3: Fold in the Pickles and Parsley

  • Next, gently fold in the finely chopped pickles and parsley. These ingredients will add crunch and freshness, lifting the overall flavor profile. If you’re feeling adventurous, toss in the capers for an extra layer of deliciousness. Make sure everything is evenly distributed throughout the cream cheese mixture.

Step 4: Adjust Seasonings

  • Now, it’s time to add the lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste. This step is crucial, as the right balance of acid and seasoning does wonders. Start with a little lemon juice, taste, and add more if you like it tangier. Adjust the salt and pepper according to your preference—this is the time to make it your own!

Step 5: Chill the Cheese Spread

  • Once everything is well-mixed and seasoned to your liking, transfer the Liptauer cheese into a bowl or an airtight container. Cover it tightly and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour. This resting time allows the flavors to meld beautifully, creating a more complex taste.
