Her classic bourbon chicken dish is a favorite among many locals, and now I'm sharing my easy-to-follow instructions so you can recreate this succulent dish in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 3 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 lb chicken thighs or breasts
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

Instructions

  • Prepare your chicken, cut into cubes, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Mix together the components of the sauce in a bowl. apple cider vinegar, red pepper flakes, brown sugar, bourbon, ginger, and garlic. Add soy sauce to the mix and whisk until combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Heat up a large skillet over medium heat and cook the chicken cubes in it. Stir frequently until cooked through, about 5 minutes.
  • Pour in the prepared sauce and stir together with the chicken cubes. Let simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve your bourbon chicken with a side of your favorite vegetables or rice for a complete meal! Enjoy your delicious homemade Leeann Chin's Bourbon Chicken!

Notes

  • For added flavor and heat, add more red pepper flakes as desired.
  • The chicken can also be cooked in an oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until cooked through.
  • If you don’t have bourbon on hand, you can use whiskey or apple juice instead.
  • To reduce the amount of sugar in this recipe, substitute brown sugar with honey or maple syrup.
  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari soy sauce instead of regular soy sauce. 
  • This dish also tastes great with pork or other proteins like shrimp and beef!
