Equipment

  • Blender
  • knife
  • cutting board
  • Bowls for serving

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 green peppers
  • 6-7 green tomatoes
  • 4 jalapenos
  • 2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 medium-sized white onion
  • 1 cup fresh green cilantro
  • 2 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic, peppers, tomatoes, and jalapenos to the pan and sauté for 3 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to low then add the red pepper flakes, vinegar, onion, cilantro, and lime juice. Stir everything together and let it cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add white sugar, ground pepper, and salt. Stir until well combined and the sugar has dissolved completely. Let it cook for another 5 minutes or until the salsa is thickened to your desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat and let cool before transferring to a bowl or container. Serve with tortilla chips, tacos, burritos, or on the side of your favorite Mexican dish!

Notes

  • If you like your salsa spicier add an extra jalapeno or two to give it some more heat.
  • You can also add a few tablespoons of water to help thin out the salsa if it's too thick for your liking.
  • If you want milder salsa, use fewer jalapenos or omit them entirely.
  • Feel free to get creative and add in other ingredients such as corn, black beans, or avocado!
